After eight episodes packed with delightfully dense dialogue, jaw-dropping guest stars, breathtaking ballet performances, and some iconic kisses, Étoile Season 1 ends in such a way that will leave fans howling for more.

So is this the last we’ve seen of Jack (Luke Kirby), Cheyenne (Lou de Laâge), Genevieve (Charlotte Gainsbourg), Tobias (Gideon Glick), and the rest of the core characters at New York’s Metropolitan Ballet Theater and France’s Ballet National? Or will “The Swap” continue for a second season?

Before there was Étoile, fans of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino likely fell in love with the duo’s first dance dramedy, Bunheads, which was prematurely canceled in 2012 after just one season. Though Étoile is a far more ambitious series — filmed in two languages across two continents with the power of streaming on its side — longtime lovers of the Palladino-verse have understandable anxiety around a Season 2 renewal, because they’ve been burned before.

So will there be an Étoile Season 2 on Prime Video? Has the streamer renewed or canceled the series yet? And what would an Étoile Season 2 be about? We’ve got answers.

Here’s everything to know about the future of Étoile, including comments from the Palladinos and Kirby about that big finale kiss.

Will There Be An Étoile Season 2 On Prime Video?

Étoile fans, it’s time to breathe a serious sigh of relief. Prime Video picked up Étoile with a two-season order back in April 2023, which means the Palladinos, Kirby, and more core cast members will be returning to continue this compelling story.

“Well, guess that plan for early retirement will have to wait. Instead, we’ve decided to embark on an international journey with an unbelievable group of players and the most talented ballet dancers in the world. We will sleep when we’re dead,” the Palladinos said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter

With such a buzzworthy final scene, a stacked cast, and powerhouse showrunners behind Étoile, it’s no surprise the series is coming back for more. The question now is when can fans expect new episodes?

Étoile Season 2 Premiere Date: When Will Étoile Return With New Episodes?

As of Season 1’s premiere on April 24, 2025, an official Season 2 date has yet to be announced, but stay tuned for updates. Assuming the series tries to stick to a fan-favored one season per year model, here’s hoping we could have new episodes of Étoile in 2026. While we wait for more Season 2 updates, let’s look back at that eventful Season 1 finale, shall we?

Étoile Season 1 Ending Explained: What Will An Étoile Season 2 Look Like?

If you need a more expansive rundown of Étoile‘s Season 1 finale, Decider gives an Episode 8 update on the core characters here. Season 2 will likely deliver more of the same and follow the two ballet companies in New York and Paris as “The Swap” continues. For the purposes of this piece, however, we’re focusing on that major finale kiss and seeing what the Palladinos and Kirby have to say about a Season 2 love triangle.

After an incredibly emotional performance to a live Sparks performance, Cheyenne raced off stage and broke down sobbing. Jack followed, the two passionately shouted at each other, and finally, they surrendered to the palpable chemistry between them with an intense, passionate, swoon-worthy kiss that ended Season 1 on a scream-worthy cliffhanger and set up a compelling love triangle between Jack, Cheyenne, and Genevieve in Season 2.

“We knew that we were eventually gonna land on them at some point. We just didn’t exactly know where until we got a little deeper into the process,” Dan Palladino told Decider over Zoom. “Lou and Luke are so good together. The thing is, Luke and Charlotte are so good together, that it does make it hard. They’re both smart, sharp women. They’re both difficult in their relationships, in their own way. And he’s both the right and the wrong man for both of them. So it’s kind of like the perfect love triangle, where none of them should be together.”

“[Jack and Cheyenne] touch upon it in the first episode,” Kirby added, referencing Jack and Cheyenne’s romantic history five years prior. “There’s sort of this sad, reflective moment where Cheyenne is learning about how New York has changed since her last time being here. And to me, just those few lines spoke volumes to their shared history.”

When if he was rooting for Jack and Cheyenne when he read the finale script, the Étoile star added, “I think they’re both worthy relationships. They’re friendships. Everyone in this story is drawn to one art form and is driven by trying to keep its vitality present. I don’t know where it’s going. I have ideas for sure, but nobody’s gonna listen to me.”

We’ll have to wait and see what Étoile has in store for Jack, Cheyenne, and Genevieve — but one thing’s for sure: The Palladinos know how to write a good love triangle that leaves characters and viewers alike pining, swooning, and everything in between.

Étoile Season 1 is now streaming on Prime Video.
