The Righteous Gemstones is in the swing of its fourth season, which is the good news. The bad news? It’s also the final season. The criminally underrated comedy created by and starring Danny McBride follows the struggles of the three Gemstone siblings, Jesse (McBride), Judi (Edi Patterson), and Kelvin (Adam Devine) with their own personal relationships and keeping up a good image for their megachurch community following the retirement of their father Eli (John Goodman).
Originally airing on HBO before being moved to what is now MAX back in 2020, the show has been consistent with releasing its last few seasons. Season 2 released in early 2022, and season 3 came out in June of 2023. The ongoing final season was released on March 9th, and the series finale will come out on May 4th.
Where was The Righteous Gemstones filmed?
The series primarily takes place in South Carolina, and that’s exactly where the show has been filmed for all of its seasons.
A casting call was put out back in September of 2024 for locals to be background actors and stand-ins in the city of Columbia while Season 4 was filming. The show has also filmed at various locations in Charleston, including the Citadel Mall (which is used as the Gemstones church), The North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center and the Aviation Square Shopping Mall.
Other locations in South Carolina that were also filming locations include Saint Phillips Island, Mount Pleasant, Ridgeville, and West Ashley.
The Righteous Gemstones is available to stream on MAX for $9.99/month. 4 episodes out of 9 are out right now, with episodes releasing every Sunday at 10 PM ET/PT.
