Plenty of stars praise the merits of this buzzy brand.

Known for its minimalist makeup and skincare, Merit has garnered rave reviews from everyone from Martha Stewart to Jenna Lyons to Salma Hayek in recent years.

So when the company dropped its first-ever tinted sunscreen, The Uniform, this summer, we were eager to get our hands (and makeup brushes) on it.

After all, while it’s only been on the market a matter of months, it’s already appeared on everyone from Dakota Johnson — who wore it on the Cannes Film Festival 2025 red carpet — to stars like Suki Waterhouse, Ego Nwodim and Sarah Snook at the Met Gala.

Read on for our full thoughts on how the newly minted red carpet staple stacks up for everyday use.

Our review

Merit The Uniform Tinted Mineral Sunscreen

Pros:

  • Sheer but buildable coverage
  • Feels lightweight on the skin
  • SPF 45
  • Beautiful packaging

Cons:

  • Not the best for those who prefer a totally matte makeup look
  • Not transfer-proof
  • Some staffers had trouble picking the right shade

Page Six Style & Shopping Director Elana Fishman ditched her foundation while testing out Merit’s SPF, saying that “unlike many tinted sunscreens, this one actually offers coverage!”

“The Uniform is lightweight, easy to apply with your fingers and offers a lovely blurring effect and a beautiful glow,” she raves. “Just a few dabs of concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes, and I was good to go! I’ll definitely be reaching for this all summer long.”

The tinted product comes in 15 shades, and the three we tested all provided a light layer of coverage. (Page Six Studio Anchor Astra noted that her freckles showed through.)

“I would definitely use this product on days where I know I want to go makeup-free, but at the same time want to ensure my skin appears somewhat smooth,” she adds.

“The light coverage evened out any redness in my skin and left a dewy finish,” echoes Page Six Commerce Writer Hannah Southwick. “While it’s not the best at covering acne — Merit’s The Minimalist Complexion Stick is a better bet for that — it’s a nice for an everyday your-skin-but-better look.”

As for downsides? Since the formula is extra-dewy, we wouldn’t recommend it for those who prefer more of a matte finish.

“Because of its dewiness, it’s easy to transfer onto things like your clothing or anything your face may brush up against (like a hat or headband),” Astra also notes.

The final verdict

All three testers were impressed with the sunscreen’s blendability and praised the lightweight, easy-to-apply formula. While the dewy finish isn’t for everyone, it could be a good summer beauty buy for someone who wants to rock a natural, glowy look — while staying safe in the sun.

How we tested

To find out whether Merit’s latest launch was a true beauty bag staple, three of our staffers tried out the formula in three different shades. Throughout our testing, we evaluated the product for ease of application, blendability, level of coverage and more.
