Laura Gordon and Tim Griffin have joined the cast of “Voltron” for Amazon MGM Studios, alongside previously announced stars Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Henry Cavill, Rita Ora, John Kim, Alba Baptista, Samson Kayo and Tharanya Tharan.

Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing the film from a script he wrote with Ellen Shanman.

While plot details for the film remain under wraps, director Rawson Marshall Thurber shared a video message with Voltron fans during VoltCon, saying, “I want to make sure that we stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron. In this film, we’re going to be introducing an entirely new generation of pilots. We’ve reimagined Voltron for the live-action world, but we’re going to stay true to… those iconic elements that you love, that I love. And I’m so excited to share it with you.”

Producers include Todd Lieberman via Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, Thurber and Hobie Films’ David Hoberman.

The “Voltron” TV franchise follows a team of space explorers who pilot a giant super robot. The franchise was adapted from several Japanese anime television series by Toei Animation, and has spawned several American series including Netflix’s eight-season “Voltron: Legendary Defender.”

Griffin is known for roles in projects including “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Prime Suspect,” “Covert Affairs” and “Wayward Pines.”

Gordon starred alongside David Dastmalchian in the 2023 feature film “Late Night with the Devil,” which earned strong reviews and achieved the largest opening weekend ever for an IFC film. Gordon also starred in the MGM+ series “Hotel Cocaine” created by Chris Brancato, and the Netflix political thriller “Secret City” alongside Jackie Weaver and Anna Torv. Her performance in the feature film “Undertow” earned her an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Award nomination for best lead actress. Additional credits include “Saw V,” “The Claremont Murders,” “Reckoning” and “Hunters.”

Gordon is represented by RGM Artists, Mosaic, TalentWorks and Vision PR.
