The View is not too pleased about President Donald Trump‘s big birthday plans. The president, who is turning 79 on June 14, is conveniently organizing a huge military parade in Washington, D.C. that very same day — and the ladies at the Hot Topics table can’t stop rolling their eyes.
While introducing the topic on this morning’s episode, Whoopi Goldberg said President Trump “thinks this is the perfect time to throw a multi-million dollar birthday parade with U.S. military in our nation’s capitol,” before adding, “What the heck! Nobody wants this.”
As Sunny Hostin pointed out that Trump’s 79th birthday just happens to “coincide with the 250th anniversary of the armed forces,” she told the panel, “I think it’s a distasteful display for our armed services because our armed services aren’t about pomp and circumstance.”
She added, “They’re about discipline, pride, service, things like that. To see him sort of trot our soldiers out like that reminds me of what you see in China, you see it in North Korea, you see it in Russia. So I don’t like that part of it.”
As for Joy Behar, she pointed out that Trump had previously called people who served in the armed services “suckers and losers,” yet “expects everybody to march in a parade with [him].”
Goldberg, meanwhile, noted that Trump is “still taking [her] tax money,” as Behar retorted, “Who do you think is paying for this?!”
Goldberg exclaimed, “I’m not interested in throwing a parade for you. If you’re gonna take my tax money, send it to the kids in the schools where you cut their afternoons … or throw my money toward the veterans, rehiring them!
“I don’t wanna pay for your birthday party,” she continued. “Not because I have a problem with birthday parties — I love them — but because there are too many other things we need to be focused on.”
Despite this morning’s conversation, Politico reports that the White House denied plans for a military parade on the president’s birthday. The outlet said they were told “No military parade has been scheduled,” when they reached out to the White House about the alleged event.
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
