This is not a drill — the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 3 teaser is here!
At the end of the Hulu show’s first-ever reunion, host Nick Viall surprised viewers with a first look at Season 3. So, what can we expect from MomTok going forward?
Jen Affleck, who stopped filming halfway through Season 2 to focus on her mental health, returns to the group — and it looks like the self-proclaimed Saint is still doubting her faith.
“You have to act and be a certain way for people to love and accept you and for God to accept you,” she says in the trailer, while her husband Zac Affleck, with whom she is expecting her third child, promises to “support [her] either way.”
Meanwhile, Layla Taylor — the only Black cast member — is addressing online accusations that she “white-washes” herself to adhere to the stereotypical Utah beauty standards. “There’s a lot of things I don’t resonate with anymore when it comes to the church … I just wanted to fit in really badly,” she says in the teaser.
Plus, there’s nothing quite like Taylor Frankie Paul speaking out and using her voice. Next season, it looks like she will finally confront her mother for sticking up for her baby daddy Dakota Mortensen more than she sticks up for her own daughter. This was something we saw last season when Paul ended things with Mortensen after finding out he hadn’t been truthful about his relations with other women in the early days of their relationship. Paul’s parents came under fire for defending Mortensen, particularly her father, who slut-shamed her for sleeping with him and getting pregnant so early on in their relationship.
However, it looks like the name on everyone’s lips is still Marciano Brunette. At the end of Season 2, Brunette not only admitted to pushing the boundary with Demi Engemann when they met on Vanderpump Villa, but he also confessed to an alleged affair with Jessi Ngatikaura. While Ngatikaura seems stunned by Brunette’s claim that they had sex, the next scene shows her husband bluntly telling her, “If I find anything else out, [I’m] done.” As we know from the reunion, Ngatikaura’s marriage is going through a hard time at the moment (and she wasn’t even wearing her wedding ring) — so, does that mean Brunette was telling the truth?
Well, Ngatikaura seems to confront the Castello Rosato server about his accusations, asking, “Why did you lie to Layla about us?” However, Brunette tells her he “was being influenced,” as the camera cuts to Engemann dramatically walking down a hallway. Were the fan theories that Engemann had allegedly forced Brunette into making up a story to take the heat off of their own inappropriate interactions true? It’s something that, perhaps, only a lie detector could determine — and, according to the trailer, a lie detector test is exactly what Ngatikaura and Brunette do to clear their names.
Beyond the Ngatikaura-Engemann-Brunette turmoil, nothing prepared me for the moment Whitney Leavitt, wearing an “I Feel Like 2007 Britney” T-shirt, declared her plans to start her own MomTok. I must say, I laughed the same way Paul did when she heard the news — but all the power to Leavitt, who, despite being let back into the group at the end of Season 2, went and befriended the one person none of the other women could stand: Engemann. Her “IDGAF” attitude, in a weird way, might be growing on me — especially in terms of reality television entertainment.
“We need to come together. They can be the crazy ones,” Paul announces, before ending the teaser on a promising note by adding, “MomTok is a sisterhood. We can get through anything.”
Hulu did not announce the release date for Season 3, but here’s hoping it comes soon!
