“The Chosen” will once again get a theatrical launch for its upcoming Season 5 before making its streaming debut. As previously expected, 5&2 Studios — the newly-formed production company now behind the global hit — will release Season 5, dubbed “The Chosen: Last Supper” in theaters in the weeks leading up to Easter (which is on April 20 in 2025). According to the shingle, the new season will be distributed in the U.S. by Fathom and internationally by Trafalgar Releasing.

In the U.S. and Canada, the eight episodes of “The Chosen: Last Supper” will be released starting March 27, 2025, in three parts during a four-week run: Part 1 (episodes 1-2), Part 2 (episodes 3, 4, 5), and Part 3 (episodes 6, 7, 8). “The Chosen: Last Supper” Part 1 will hit theaters in more than 40 additional territories starting April 10, including Brazil, Mexico, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Poland, Philippines and India, among others. Season 5 will then make its streaming debut later in 2025.

This continues the unique distribution model that “The Chosen” has done since its launch (including “The Chosen” app, theatrical, linear outlets and streaming). Season 5 began production in April and wrapped in July.

Here’s the logline for “The Chosen: Last Supper”: “The table is set. The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while his disciples anticipate his crowning. But—instead of confronting Rome—he turns the tables on the Jewish religious festival. Their power threatened, the country’s religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last.”

“I’m possibly more excited to bring Season 5 to the world than any other season we’ve done,” said Dallas Jenkins, creator and executive producer of ‘The Chosen.’ “Unfortunately, it’s not coming until March, but that’s because it’s such a huge season and requires a ton of work. But I’m so thrilled to show this first glimpse of it with the poster and the teaser and for our fans.”

Jenkins launched 5&2 Studios earlier this year, exclusively revealing to Variety his plans to expand “The Chosen” universe with several new projects, including the animated “The Chosen Adventures,” a youthful take on the Jesus story, featuring voice actors including Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird”) and Yvonne Orji (“Insecure”). Also in the works, “The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls” is a six-episode adventure series shooting this fall. And after “The Chosen” wraps, for his next flagship program, Jenkins plans to next write, direct and showrun a three-season series about the life of Moses.

In the coming years, “The Chosen” Season 6 will focus on the story of the Crucifixion, while Season 7 will center on Jesus’ Resurrection. Both seasons will contain eight episodes, and will include a global theatrical release of extended Crucifixion and Resurrection episodes.
