Elon Musk and the Tesla-trashing trend got the “SNL” treatment in this weekend’s cold open.
The sketch spoofed President Donald Trump’s dramatic tariff announcement at the White House Rose Garden earlier this week, with Mike Myers reviving his over-the-top impersonation of Musk.
After James Austin Johnson’s bombastic Trump declared that South Africa had “never sent us one good thing,” a panicked Musk burst onstage, shouting, “What about me?
Wearing a cheesehead hat, Musk claimed it was part of his plan to “buy the election in Wisconsin,” referencing his real-life push to elect conservative state Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel, who ultimately lost.
Trump then quipped that Musk’s time in Washington D.C. may be over, saying, “Elon is great, but sadly it’s time to never see you again, okay? You gotta get back to Tesla, right, because they’re doing pretty bad.”
Meyers’ Musk didn’t argue.
“Recently, our dealerships have been the targets of many attacks,” he admitted. “Suddenly, no one likes Tesla cars. I asked myself why. Then I answered myself: Because of me!”
But “SNL’s” Musk had a solution: the Tesla Model V.
“The first electric car in history to be fully self-vandalizing!” he boasted.
A mock ad showed off its features: “self-smashing headlights, self-slashing tires, and AI-powered graffiti.”
“You can choose from penises or swastikas,” he added. “Or my favorite: swastikas made out of penises!”
After the sketch aired, Musk responded on his platform, X.
Maintaining that the sketch comedy show “hasn’t been funny in a long time,” he wrote: “They are their own parody.”
Musk’s presence in the White House has sparked nationwide backlash, with some protests turning destructive. At least 10 Tesla showrooms, dealerships, and charging stations have reportedly been targeted by vandalism or arson in recent days.
