Sarah Michelle Gellar, whose on-screen romances often arrived with a side of apocalypse, says her real-life marriage of over two decades thrives on something far simpler — and far less cursed.

Appearing on Thursday’s episode of “Today With Jenna and Friends,” the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star offered up her advice to Jenna Bush Hager and guest host Tiffany Haddish.

Gellar, met Freddie Prinze Jr. on the set of 1997′s teen thriller “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and married him in September 2002. When Gellar casually mentioned how long she and Prinze have been together, both hosts practically gasped in unison and exclaimed, “What’s the secret?”

The actor simply responded, “Separate bathrooms.”

The simplicity floored both hosts and left them in a state of shock. Haddish then chimed in with her own theory on domestic longevity.

“See, I was thinking it was like the [‘I Love Lucy’] thing where [Lucy and Ricky had] twin beds, and then when y’all want to get together, you push them together, and when you want to be apart, you push them apart,” said Haddish.

“I had not thought of that,” Gellar responded. “That is actually a really good idea.”

And while Gellar’s advice for marriage may lean more human than supernatural, she recently confirmed to People that the revival of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is moving along faster than expected.

“We’ve set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I’d anticipated,” she said. “But it’s going to be a process, I think.”
