Sam Asghari is getting candid about how his past relationship with Britney Spears affected his career.
“I can’t sit here and lie and say, ‘It wasn’t good for me,’” the actor told Page Six Radio co-hosts Danny Murphy and Ian Mohr on Monday.
“When you’re in such a public relationship, that gives you that platform — it sort of gave me that platform for who I am,” Asghari added.
While Asghari, 31, acknowledged the publicity boost, he added that he had already mapped out a trajectory for his career.
“I mean, we met on the acting set,” the model said, referring to Spears’ 2016 “Slumber Party” music video. “We met as co-workers.”
Asghari starred in the sultry video as a suit-clad hunk, and the former couple began dating shortly thereafter — ultimately going Instagram-official in January 2017.
“I just started acting at that moment, so I was already doing stuff anyway,” he said.

And while his high-profile marriage to Spears provided visibility, Asghari confessed that in some ways, it hindered him.
“Did it make me, you know, have to work harder to prove myself? Absolutely,” he told Mohr and Murphy.
Asghari noted that he was working as a personal trainer and a waiter at the time — and there were questions among casting agents like, “Do we really want to hire someone that’s a cheesy trainer?”
Asghari continued, “‘Oh, and he’s associated with a pop star, which is also cheesy as well. Or can we see him as a character?’ There was that line as well.”
Spears, 43, and Asghari tied the knot in a lavish, star-studded ceremony in June 2022 following five years of dating.
They ultimately split and finalized their divorce in May 2024.
At the time, Page Six was told the divorce was settled “amicably” due to an “ironclad prenup.”
The singer called her ex-husband a “gift from God” in her October 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me.” (However, edits were not made to include their split after Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023.)
Asghari returned the praise with kind words of his own.
“That made me smile, to be honest,” the actor told a paparazzo following the book’s release. “I’m freakin’ proud of her, and I hope she takes over the world.”
