King Charles acceded to the throne four years ago when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II passed away on 8 September 2022. May the following year was when his official coronation took place, and in a reflective post, the Royal Collection Trust shared an image of a portrait, which was commissioned to commemorate the occasion.
When the post first went up it mistakenly read: “On this day in 2023, King Charles III acceded to the throne,” and the incorrect date was swiftly amended to 2022, however, not before eagle-eyed fans noticed. “2022” one fan simply corrected and another added: “You’d think they’d know!” A third wrote: “On this day, 2022!”
