Red Animation Studios has announced the opening of its newest facility, Red Canarias, located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on the Spanish Canary Islands. The move is a major step in the studio’s 20-year journey and strengthens its presence in the European animation market.

With studios already operating in Lima, Peru, the addition of Red Canarias gives Red Animation Studios a strategic base in the Canary Islands, a region fast becoming a magnet for film and animation production due to its robust infrastructure, experienced and bilingual talent pool and attractive fiscal incentives, including up to a 54% cash rebate on qualifying production spend.

The opening of the Tenerife studio also formalizes Red Animation’s collaboration with German-based Seru Animation, the studio behind “The Elkins,” “Rabbit Academy” and “My Fairy Troublemaker.” The two companies will work jointly to produce and co-produce a slate of CG feature films, leveraging both studios’ technological strengths and the production advantages offered by the region.

“Our team has delivered more than three thousand minutes of CGI and 2D animation for partners and platforms such as Rovio, Moonbug, Warner, Disney and SERU,” Red’s CEO and creative director, Milton Guerrero, tells Variety. “Red Canarias allows us to bring that hard-earned expertise closer to European clients and accelerate the development of our original IP slate.”

Guillermo Peraza, producer and studio manager, joins the leadership team on-site in Tenerife to oversee the day-to-day operations of Red Canarias. Together with Guerrero and Red Animation’s head of production, Marie Castañeda, the team is poised to grow both the studio’s output and its influence in the region.

“Our studio’s reputation is built on reliability, creativity, and technical excellence,” says Castañeda. “Tenerife’s collaborative ecosystem gives us the perfect environment to scale these strengths, nurture new talent, and continue delighting audiences worldwide.”

Red Canarias is expected to generate 40 high-skilled jobs in its first year and develop training initiatives in partnership with local universities, reinforcing the island’s emergence as a major European hub for animation and visual effects.

Recent projects from Red Animation Studios include “Angry Birds: Maker Space” (Seasons 2–3) and “Angry Birds: Bubble Trouble” (Seasons 1–2) for Rovio Entertainment, “Crayola Crew” for Moonbug Entertainment and feature collaborations with SERU Animation, such as “My Fairy Troublemaker” and “Elfkins 2.” The studio is also advancing two original projects: the animated feature “KAI,” currently in production, and the series “Spark of the Mechas,” which is in development.

Founded in 2005, Red Animation Studios has produced more than 2,000 minutes of premium content for kids and families. With its expansion to Tenerife, the studio continues to grow its global footprint and creative influence across continents.
