King Haakon and his wife Queen Mette-Marit will be finding their feet as His and Her Majesty, after the monarch King Harald V passed away on 28 August. Despite their new senior royal roles, the couple will not be relocating to The Royal Palace in Oslo.
The palace may be the official residence, but it is more often used for state affairs as opposed to residency
Skaugum Estate is currently Haakon and Mette-Marit’s primary residence, and it is believed this will remain to be the case, despite Haakon’s accession to the throne. The idyllic residence is around 12 miles from Oslo, and it has been where the couple have lived since 2003.
