Patti LuPone may not be conjuring the kind of screen magic fans hoped for, but there’s no need to cry for her.

The Tony-winning icon first cast her spell on “American Horror Story” viewers in 2013 when she debuted as Joan Ramsey in the “Coven” season of Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology. Then in 2022, she joined “American Horror Story: NYC” as cabaret singer Kathy Pizazz. But will she be returning anytime soon?

In a recent interview with awards show news site Gold Derby, LuPone was asked if she would consider returning to the series, particularly since Murphy has reportedly “wanted to bring the group back together.”

“What group is that, though?” she asked.

“I imagine the really, really cool people,” the interviewer offered, adding that LuPone qualifies.

“Yeah, I don’t think so. I think he was probably talking about the guys,” she responded, punctuating the comment with a gesture that made her reluctance crystal clear.

Her “AHS” co-star Jessica Lange was even more direct on the subject in a February interview at the Dublin International Film Festival. When asked about a possible return, Lange bluntly dismissed the idea.

“Oh, Christ, no,” she said. “I mean, I haven’t done it for more than 10 years, 12 years. So no, I’m not doing it.”

And the magic continued to fade elsewhere.

In January, LuPone also said she won’t be walking the Witches’ Road again in the Disney+ series “Agatha All Along.”

During a conversation with Bravo’s Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM podcast “Andy Cohen Live,” LuPone said the show would not have a second season.

But, it seems LuPone may have prematurely ended the magical journey. In a February conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Brad Winderbaum, the head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel, had his own thoughts on the series.

“A show like Agatha, to me, is concept based,” he said. “Yes, a second season for sure is something that we would want to do, but let’s not rush it. Let’s get the right idea and then make it.”
