Governors, including board-elected governors-at-large, may serve up to two three-year terms consecutively or non-consecutively, followed by a two-year hiatus. Eligibility resets for up to two more terms, with a lifetime cap of 12 years.
The Board of Governors is responsible for setting the Academy’s strategic vision, maintaining its financial stability, and ensuring the fulfillment of its mission to support excellence in the motion picture arts and sciences.
The Board of Governors recently announced the honorees for the 16th annual Governors Awards: Tom Cruise, Dolly Parton, Debbie Allen and Wynn Thomas.
