April is now in our rearview, and with this new month of May comes a plethora of must-see movies for you to catch up on at home. If you want to get your heart racing with scares and laughs in equal measure, you can now rent the star-studded horror comedy Death of a Unicorn. For those brave enough to take on something even more terrifying, you can do so with the Meghann Fahy-led thriller Drop.
If you’re not a fan of horror, you can still find plenty of notable new titles to watch, like drama film The Friend. Based on Sigrid Nunez’s 2018 novel of the same name, The Friend follows writer and teacher Irish (Naomi Watts) as her life is upended upon the death of her mentor and close friend, Walter (Bill Murray), leaving her with grief, confusion, and Walter’s beloved 150-pound pet Great Dane.
These are just a few of the films that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now.
Death of a Unicorn
When widower Elliot Kintner (Paul Rudd) and his teenage daughter Ridley (Jenna Ortega) hit an animal on the way to a weekend retreat, they set off a violent and ridiculous chain of events when the injured creature turns out to be a unicorn. Upon arriving at their destination — a lavish estate owned by Elliot’s boss, Odell Leopold (Richard E. Grant) — the father and daughter duo try to stop the greedy Leopold family from experimenting on the unicorn, only to fall in the crosshairs of the animal and its herd-mates on their brutal, bloody path to revenge.
Drop
Drop is a recently released Christopher Landon-directed thriller that follows Chicago-based therapist and single mother Violet Gates (Meghann Fahy) as she ventures into the dating pool for the first time after the death of her abusive husband. After matching on an app with charming photographer Henry Campbell (Brandon Sklenar), Violet leaves her son (Jacob Robinson) at home in the care of her sister (Violett Beane) to meet her date at an upscale restaurant. But Violet’s dreamy evening soon devolves into a complete nightmare when a watchful unknown assailant sends increasingly threatening messages threatening to kill Violet’s sister and son if she doesn’t murder Henry by the end of the date.
