David Zucker has no intentions of seeing the upcoming remake of “The Naked Gun.”
Paramount Pictures dropped the first teaser Thursday to trending results and millions of views. Zucker, who directed the original 1989 film and the comedy classic “Airplane!” (1980), reacted with a rather vivid description that is likely to trigger untold internet users.
“I never saw ‘Airplane 2’ because you can’t unsee that stuff,” Zucker told TMZ. “I’m not planning on seeking the ‘Naked Gun’ remake either. I regret having seen the trailer for it. It’s like watching ‘2 Girls 1 Cup.’ I can’t unsee it.”
While arguably an esoteric reference today, “2 Girls 1 Cup” was one of the most widely shared internet videos of the late 2000s — and showed two women eating what appears to be feces in what was reportedly the trailer for a Brazilian scat fetish porn film.
It inspired baffling marketing stunts at the time even from corporate giants like Coca-Cola. As evident by the unfavorable comparison Thursday, Zucker is taking the impending fourth entry in his beloved franchise personally — and arguably has good reason.
The original trilogy was based on his 1982 series “Police Squad!”, which spoofed procedural cop shows and starred Leslie Nielsen as bumbling cop Frank Drebin. Zucker co-created the franchise with his brother Jerry and late writer and director Jim Abrahams.
Zucker seemed enthusiastic when he said in 2013 that “there’s something you can do” with a fourth film. The writer-director told TMZ on Thursday, however, that he and his partners Pat Proft and Mike McManus submitted a script for it in 2018, but never heard back.

Paramount ultimately settled on what the teaser promises is a highly-self aware reboot from former “Saturday Night Live” writer Akiva Schaffer, one-third of the comedy musical group “The Lonely Island,” with Oscar winner Liam Neeson replacing the late Nielsen.
Whether the final product succeeds at the box office will be seen upon release on Aug. 1.
