This is straight-up Regina George behavior.
On Monday, right-wing pundit Megyn Kelly attempted to dismiss “Wicked” star Ariana Grande’s political views by utilizing a very petty tactic.
“Ariana Grande needs to put more thought into how to add one half an ounce of fat back onto her body than she does thinking about President Trump being impeached,” Kelly said on her YouTube show.
“Obviously, she is in the middle of a crisis,” Kelly unfortunately continued. “I’m sorry, but this woman looks ill. She is beyond skinny. She looks dangerously thin, and someone needs to do an intervention to help her. I’m not saying this to be snarky. I genuinely think someone needs to help this woman. She’s obviously troubled.”
Kelly’s “bless her heart” ire was likely sparked by a few posts Grande has recently shared on her Instagram Stories that were critical of Trump.
In one, the pop star shared a photo of a protester’s sign that read: “Could someone explain which crimes get you deported and which ones get you elected President? It’s so confusing.”
Grande also shared a tweet by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) calling for Trump’s impeachment over his strikes on Iran.
Yet, instead of arguing why she felt the “We Can’t Be Friends” singer’s political stance was wrong, Kelly opted for high-school slam book tactics that went beyond just body-shaming.
“Ariana Grande, who, as far as I know, has done nothing other than sing and dance — which is fine, she seems to be very good at that — would like us to listen to her political opinions now,” Kelly said.
She continued, “In particular, her constitutional opinions on whether he’s gone too far. And the reason she’s qualified to make this conclusion is because of the segments she did for years on Nickelodeon, as follows.”
The MAGA commentator then aired a clip of Grande during her child star days from the Netflix docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.”
In the clip, a young Grande can be seen performing overtly sexual gestures on Nickelodeon shows created by Dan Schneider. Although Grande did not participate in the docuseries, it used clips of her to illustrate alleged sexual misconduct and inappropriate sexualization of children on his watch. (Schneider has since sued for defamation.)
After airing what may be a painful memory for Grande, Kelly then suggested her “troubled youth” makes her unqualified to express a political opinion.
“She was exploited as a young person; it’s not nice. It’s actually quite sad,” Kelly said. “But now she’s decided to take that troubled youth and turn it around to make constitutional judgments about our president.”
“There’s a lot that went on, I think, on that Nickelodeon set that’s never been fully fleshed out,” Kelly went on, “and I think Ariana Grande should work on her own well-being and keep her constitutional thoughts to herself.”
