Meghan Markle seemingly invited viewers into her home in her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it was the actual Montecito home she lives in with Prince Harry and their family.
Though it’s typical for lifestyle series to take place at the host’s home, Markle finally addressed why she decided not to film the series at her own home during a recent appearance at the Time100 Summit, according to Variety.
“When people say, ‘Why didn’t you [film in] your house?’ Well, I have kids coming home for their nap, and 80 people in the kitchen isn’t really the childhood memory I’d want for them to have,” she said, referring to the Netflix series’ film crew.
“We were really fortunate to find something close by,” she said, adding that she decided to film at a separate location to “take care of myself.”
The glamorous series shows Meghan, Duchess of Sussex hosting chefs and celebrity guests in a California home as she shares her best tips for cooking, gardening and hosting.
According to Variety, the show filmed at a farmhouse in Montecito, California, owned by the royal couple’s neighbors, Tom and Sherrie Cipolla.
And it looks like the show could be returning there for Season 2 as the series has already been renewed, despite receiving lackluster reviews when it premiered in March.
With Love, Meghan was initially celebrated by fans for being a natural next step for the former actress who used to share recipes and other lifestyle tips on her personal blog and social media.
But the show faced severe criticism from some who felt she was “copying” Pamela Anderson’s upcoming Food Network series and others who felt it was a “tone deaf” move considering the current political climate, as Meghan McCain put it.
Decider’s Meghan O’Keefe echoed a similar sentiment in her review of the series, “Unfortunately, With Love, Meghan won’t make you feel like you’re watching the arrival of the millennial Ina Garten, but rather the second coming of Marie Antoinette.”
Markle also announced during her recent appearance that the second season will feature celebrity chef Jose Andres, who she volunteered with during the Los Angeles wildfires to hand out food and supplies to victims.
With Love, Meghan Season 2 has already completed filming and is expected to premiere later this fall.
