Malaysia-Singapore co-production “Magik Rompak” has confirmed its theatrical release date of Sept. 11 in Singapore and Malaysia, marking director Adrian Teh’s return to the action genre after helming successful films including “Malbatt,” “Paskal,” “Wira” and “The Assistant.”

The $3 million heist thriller follows former renowned magician Hadi, haunted by a tragic past, who devises a bold plan to steal the legendary Hati Kesuma necklace — a jewel worth millions — from a corrupt billionaire’s mansion. He partners with the “Night Spark,” a trio of skilled thieves driven by revenge, using a magic show as cover for the elaborate heist. When betrayal strikes from within, the team must outwit overwhelming odds to survive and escape.

The film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Zul Arrifin, Sharnaaz Ahmad, Amelia Henderson, Nadhir Nasar, Fabian Loo and Singapore’s Tay Ping Hui. The pairing of Zul Arrifin and Sharnaaz Ahmad represents a meeting of Malaysia’s current box office heavyweights.

The production represents a collaboration between Act 2 Pictures, Golden Screen Cinemas, Astro Shaw, Overseas Union Garden and Clover Films. May Woo of Act 2, Paulyn Chua and Lim Teck of Clover Films serve as executive producers. Visual effects were handled by Singapore’s WOW FX Studios.

“Magik Rompak” received support from the Singapore Film Commission and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) through the Media Enterprise Programme, as well as Malaysia’s Film In Malaysia Incentive + (FIMI+) program.

Arrifin leads the cast of “Sheriff,” which collected more than RM63 million ($14.8 million) at the Malaysian box office in 2024 and was the country’s top-grossing film of the year. Ahmad starred in “Blood Brothers: Bara Naga,” which has earned more than RM76 million ($17.9 million) since its April release and currently holds the title of Malaysia’s highest-grossing film of 2025. Both titles rank as the second and third highest-grossing local films in Malaysian cinema history, respectively, trailing only 2023’s “Mat Kilau.”

“I am so excited to see ‘Magik Rompak’ finally releasing in the cinemas in September.” said Teh. “This genre is a new attempt for me, constantly exploring new genres is what drives me to make films. I hope ‘Magik Rompak’ will offer audiences a unique cinema experience. This project has been made possible given the hard work of the entire crew and cast. Also a special note to all my investors who always believe in me. We aim to bring joy to the audience, and believe our movie has indeed all the elements be so.”

Teh’s previous action films have found global audiences through Netflix following their local theatrical releases.
