The Jonathan Majors movie, Magazine Dreams, is quietly releasing on digital platforms tomorrow, just a little over two weeks after the movie quietly released in theaters. Anyone who has been following the news around Majors likely knows why the studio didn’t do a big press tour for this one.
Written and directed by Elijah Bynum, Magazine Dreams was first acquired by Searchlight Pictures, after a successful premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival that had awards pundits speculating for a Majors award circuit. A few months later, Majors was arrested and charged with assault, harassment, and strangulation following a domestic dispute with former girlfriend Grace Jabbari. In December 2023, Majors was convicted by a court of law, for one count of reckless assault in the 3rd degree, and a charge of harassment as a violation. As a result of the controversy, the actor was dropped by his management company, and Searchlight returned the rights to the movie. Eventually, the rights were picked up again by Briarcliff Entertainment, the independent studio behind the 2024 Oscar-nominated film, The Apprentice.
With a limited, domestic release, Magazine Dreams made just over $1.1 million at the box office. Despite good reviews, it’s hard to escape the violent controversy surrounding the film’s star, especially given the violent nature of the role. But perhaps the film will fare better on digital. Read on to learn about where to watch Magazine Dreams online, and what we know about if Magazine Dreams will be released on streaming.
Where to watch the Jonathan Majors movie Magazine Dreams online:
Beginning on Tuesday, April 8 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time—which is also April 7 at 9 p.m. Pacific Time—the Magazine Dreams movie will be available to purchase on digital platforms like Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon, Magazine Dreams costs $24.99 to buy on digital.
Will the Magazine Dreams movie be streaming free on Netflix or another streaming service?
For now, Magazine Dreams is not streaming on Netflix, or any other subscription-based streaming service. Magazine Dreams is not a Netflix original, nor is it a big studio movie. It’s a small, independent film being distributed by Briarcliff Entertainment, and therefore does not have a given streaming home. Briarcliff Entertainment does not currently have any output deals with the streamers, so it will be up to each streamer whether they want to pay for the rights to stream the film. Given the film’s controversial star, it’s possible that Magazine Dreams may never be streaming free on a subscription-based streaming platform.
That said, another Briarcliff Entertainment movie, The Hill, did eventually stream on Netflix, about five months after it opened in theaters, so it is possible you’ll see Magazine Dreams on Netflix in about five months, around late August or early September 2025. But many other Briarcliff Entertainment movies, including The Apprentice, did not go on to stream on Netflix. There’s not enough data for an accurate prediction at this time.
In the meantime, if you want to watch Magazine Dreams right away, you can buy the film on digital beginning tomorrow.
