LeBron James will not be gracing the Met Gala 2025 red carpet with his presence.
Just hours before fashion’s biggest night is set to kick off, the Los Angeles Lakers star announced he will not be attending due to a knee injury he sustained at the end of the NBA season last week.
“Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won’t be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on!” he tweeted Monday.
“Hate to miss an historical event!” the athlete added.
However, the “Starting 5” star shared that his wife and “beautiful powerful Queen,” Savannah James, “will be there holding the castle down as she always has done!”
According to ESPN, LeBron suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee late in Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves on April 30.
During the fourth quarter, LeBron collided with Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo, who was called for an offensive foul on the play.
Though the dad of three fell to the floor and left the game, he later returned and played the remainder of the contest.
The Lakers ultimately lost and were put out of the playoffs due to the Timberwolves garnering their fourth win in the series.
Last October, Vogue announced that the four-time NBA champion, 40, was named as an honorary chair of the Met Gala under the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Co-chairs for the ball include actor Colman Domingo, race car driver Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky and Louis Vuitton designer Pharrell Williams as well as, of course, editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour.
Vogue said the forthcoming Costume Institute show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will “take the Black dandy as its subject, examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.”
Page Six exclusively reported last week that several stars will attend Monday’s annual gala, including Madonna, Diana Ross, Angela Bassett, Demi Moore, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, Lorde, Bebe Rexha, Shaboozey and many others.
