Kelly Ripa gave us more relatable content as she stripped down what Live was like during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While chatting about the seven-point rule of fashion on Live with Kelly and Mark on Friday, Mark Consuelos acknowledged that “the pandemic really shifted everything” in terms of style choices, including his own.

“Because you’re in sweatpants and comfortable clothes forever,” he said of quarantine.

Ripa said the same went for her, explaining that she “broadcast this show from a computer screen, where you would see [her] top.”

“And I was wearing one point only,” she teased. “Because from the waist down, there was usually just a pair of underpants. If I was feeling really professional, I would put on sweatpants.”

She also shared that she would have “a bowl of muesli in between [her] legs” to eat, surprising Consuelos, who noted that she “never eat[s] during the show.”

Ripa echoed, “I never eat during the show. But I was going buck wild. We would go to commercial break, and I would just be like — [slurps].”

While Consuelos did not join Live as a co-host until April 2023, he did have an integral role in the show during the pandemic, teasing that he “was the lighting guy.”

“I would light it. Because, I mean, my show was shut down. I had nothing else to do, he added. “So I was lighting. And I really took an interest in the lighting. And you guys sent a nice lighting package.”

Live EP Michael Gelman vouched for Consuelos, telling him that he was “doing a lot of tech work.”

Ripa then recalled a hilarious pastime of hers during remote production.

“My favorite thing to do was to take pictures of Gelman thinking he was showing me something from his at-home camera, but only he could see it. I couldn’t see it,” she quipped. “So I wouls just take pictures of him attempting to show me things.”

Consuelos chimed in, “I remember that. Good old days.”

Ripa added, “Occasionally, Ron, your dad, would walk behind you in a bathrobe. And I would take a picture of that too.”

Gelman reminded Ripa that his wife Laurie “would come out, thinking we were off air, brushing her teeth,” leading Ripa to hatch an idea.

“What I should do is, I should publish a book called Pandemic Live,” she teased.

Consuelos agreed, “A coffeetable book. That’d be perfect.”

Ripa continued, “It’s just pictures that I took of Gelman and his family during the pandemic. Just walking through the screen.”
