The ladies on The View are once again defending former first lady Michelle Obama‘s decision to skip President Donald Trump‘s inauguration back in January, with Joy Behar offering a particularly eyebrow-raising take on the ordeal.

On a recent episode of Obama’s IMO podcast, she opened up about her decision to send her husband to the event solo, telling her older brother that she’s “really trying to own [her] life” and “intentionally practice making the choice that’s right for [her].”

Speaking of the topic on this morning’s episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg asked, “Why does she owe anybody an explanation?” noting that it’s “the fourth time” she’s had to clear up divorce rumors.

“I don’t understand why, if she says, ‘I didn’t go,’ why do I have to ask you, ‘Did you get your friend this month?’ Why is it my business? She didn’t go!” Goldberg fumed.

Behar playfully added, “If I had to listen to Trump babble on for hours, I’d have menstrual cramps too,” sending the other co-hosts and the audience into hysterics.

Once everyone was able to collect themselves again, Sunny Hostin gave her perspective.

“I think it’s because women are always expected to say yes and expected to do things even when they don’t want to do them,” she said. “I remember, in my 20s and 30s, I didn’t know the power of no. I just expected that people expected me to say yes to almost everything.”

Behar, who was clearly on a roll this morning, then chimed in, “Is that how you got pregnant all those times?”

Goldberg, on the other hand, couldn’t understand why anyone would have a hard time saying no.

“I must be a freak of nature because I don’t understand why you would go somewhere and be uncomfortable. I don’t want to be uncomfortable,” she said. “If I know I’m going someplace and it’s not good for me, I don’t do it because it’s not good for me!”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
