Jenna Bush Hager and the sun have a checkered past — one that might rival Dr. Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham” for its sheer unpredictability.
Bush Hager, debuting her new bob, was joined by guest host and actor Leslie Bibb during Tuesday’s episode of “Today with Jenna & Friends,” where the two swapped stories about their time spent sunbathing (or attempting to).
The conversation was sparked by a tangent about Gwyneth Paltrow sharing a video of herself cooking topless for her partner — which prompted Bush Hager to ask Bibb if she’d ever basked in the sun sans bikini top.
“I am so scared of the sun,” Bibb confessed.
“That’s why you have great skin,” Bush Hager replied.
This opened the floodgates: Bibb recalled how her mother used to sunbathe “naked as a jailbird” on their family deck — setting the stage for Bush Hager to reveal a youthful tanning tale that went a few shades too far.
While in high school and in Spain, Bush Hager tried topless sunbathing, presumably on a beach. The result? A sunburn so severe, it took an unexpected — and unflattering — turn.
“If you get burned, it’s not pretty,” she said.
Bibb, visibly intrigued, asked, “Did you peel?”
Bush Hager confirmed she did, and what followed was a hue not found in your typical bronzing palette.
“They turned green? Oh, I don’t think that’s good,” Bibb exclaimed, trying to recover from the vivid image now logged in her imagination.
“The White Lotus” actor then asked if Bush Hager still dabbles in sunbathing.
Her response? A resounding “no.”
She went on to describe the experience as “gross” and used the moment to champion sunscreen.
