Hey, what do you expect from a man whose company logo looks like a penis?

On Thursday, ABC News obtained and published a portion of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sánchez’s invitation for their upcoming nuptials in Venice, Italy — and let’s just say its design is waaaay past its prime.

Printed in an italic font reminiscent of a greeting card, the text of the invitation is adorned with illustrations of doves, butterflies and the Rialto Bridge that look a lot like stock images.

When photos of the invitation made their way to X, formerly Twitter, users couldn’t help but snark about the design, with some describing it as “looking like an illustration from a YA romance novel” or “something a 15 year-old made on canva.”

Is this a joke? Looks like an elementary school project.

Please tell me this isn’t real. It looks like clip art from windows 95.

That invite is atrocious. Onviously, money can’t buy taste or class.

It looks like instructions to a board game.

Basic.

Certainly not an elegant invitation.

Graphic designer’s opinion: It looks like Lauren saved some of Jeff’s money and had her bestie’s cousin’s 14 year old daughter design these on Canva. This weird half-greyscale is not it.
Where are the greeting & salutation in the copy?

It wasn’t just the design that irked social media users. Someone took issue with the invitation asking guests to forgo gifts, instead listing three Venetian charities the couple plan to donate to after they tie the knot.

“Please no gifts we’re far to rich to receive anything from you peasants”

Others were also suspicious that the invite — sent to celebrity guests like Oprah Winfrey, Tom Brady, Kim Kardashian and Ivanka Trump in May — was publicized shortly after reports began to spread that Venetians aren’t super thrilled about hosting the billionaire’s wedding weekend.

Activist groups including Greenpeace are protesting Bezos and Sánchez’s wedding, The Associated Press reports, with critics accusing the couple of exploiting a city already suffering from overtourism, rising housing prices and the threat of flooding due to environmental factors.

Earlier this week, activists from Greenpeace Italy and the U.K. group Everyone hates Elon [Musk] unfurled a banner in Venice’s St. Mark’s Square that read, “If you can rent Venice for your wedding you can pay more tax.”

“The problem is not the wedding, the problem is the system. We think that one big billionaire can’t rent a city for his pleasure,” Simona Abbate, one of the protesters, told Reuters.
