J Balvin, Doja Cat and Tems have been booked to perform at the first-ever halftime show for the FIFA Club World Cup Final, set to be broadcast around the globe July 13 from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, it was announced Monday morning.
The halftime extravaganza is being produced by Global Citizen and curated by a longtime advisor for that advocacy group, Coildplay’s Chris Martin. The show will be broadcast for free globally via DAZN.com.
As with all of Global Citizen’s efforts that are centered around an entertainment event, the ultimate goal will be to raise awareness and funding for efforts to end extreme poverty around the world.
Said J Balvin in a statement, “From Medellín to MetLife — I’m honored to headline the first-ever halftime show of the FIFA Club World Cup final. It’s a historic moment, for me, for Latin culture and for every kid who dreams big.”
“We’re going to bring the world together for a beautiful moment,” said Tems, “to celebrate football, feel the unity that music brings, and improve the lives of millions of children through the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. I can’t wait … see you at the Club World Cup final.”
All three performers have some prior history with Global Citizen events. Balvin will be doing his fourth event with the org, having previously appeared on three televised or webcast shows during the pandemic (“One World: Together at Home,” “Global Goal: Unite for Our Future” and “Vax Live”). Doja Cat previously headlined two live concerts that were broadcast around the world (the 2024 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park and, before that, Global Citizen LIVE, held in front of the Eiffel Tower in 2021). Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems performed on the Global Citizen Festival: Accra stage in Ghana in 2022.
Organizers promise that July’s crowning of the first official FIFA club world champion will reach the largest global audience ever for a club football competition.
The show will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which was announced in April at the Global Citizen NOW Summit by FIFA president Gianni Infantino and Global Citizen co-ounder/CEO Hugh Evans. The goal of the initiative is to raise $100 million to provide children with access to quality education and football. To that end, a dollar from every ticket sold for this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup matches in the U.S. will be donated to the fund.
“To end extreme poverty we need to ensure every child gets access to a quality education,” said Evans in a statement. “That’s why, together with our partners at FIFA, we’re calling on football fans everywhere to take action. The FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund brings together the global energy of football and music to raise $100 million — and give children around the world a real chance at a better future. As the Club World Cup kicks off, we’re asking fans to step up, get involved, and be part of the movement driving real change.”
The new FIFA Club World Cup will be held in the U.S. from June 14 through its July 13 climax. The world’s top 32 club teams will compete in 12 venues in 11 cities.
Global Citizen is producing the show in partnership with Live Nation, Done+Dusted and DPS. Hamish Hamilton will direct; Guy Carrington, Hamish Hamilton and Dave Meyers are among the executive producers.
It was also announced last fall that Global Citizen will produce the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show in New Jersey on July 19, 2026.
