Will the gang accept this rose? Or this No. 2 pencil? Or both?!
A few weeks out from the premiere of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia on FX and Hulu, the first trailer for Season 17 has finally been released and promises some epic collabs with fellow Disney-umbrella shows, including Abbott Elementary and The Golden Bachelor.
The world has known for quite some time that Mac (Rob McElhenney), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), Charlie (Charlie Day), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), and Frank (Danny DeVito) would be volunteering at Abbott in a crossover episode — the Abbott Elementary kid-friendly version aired back in February and was announced months before then — but it’s now time for Sunny‘s NSFW edition.
“Are you pissing in that locker?” Charlie asks Frank at one point in the teaser as a trickle sound can be heard in the background. “I drank so much coffee,” DeVito’s character responds as it cuts to Janine (Quinta Brunson) looking stressed and concerned at the camera.
Also included in the Season 17 trailer is a first look at Frank’s turn — or apparent turn — as ABC’s Golden Bachelor, along with an appearance from host Jesse Palmer. In the short snippet, Palmer welcomes audience members to the finale as Frank tells the camera what he’s looking for.
“I can’t wait to find a Grade A, prime-cut piece of a**,” Frank says in a talking head clip, smiling and taking a beat before adding, “to love.”
Back in February, DECIDER spoke with McElhenney who teased an epic season of Sunny ahead and an even more epic version of the Abbott Elementary crossover.
“That’s the beauty of the way we shot those episodes,” McElhenney said. “It’s the same story except told through a different lens […] But that same story is going to be told now through the Sunny lens in a few months. And I think we’re going to surprise quite a few people.”
DECIDER also talked with Day, whose long-illiterate character finally learned how to read in the Abbott Elementary version of the crossover, and he shared that they are looking to amp up the jokes and turn up the dirtiness to give Abbott fans a very different timeline of the day’s events.
“We thought there could be something really interesting with finding additional footage that isn’t aired during the Abbott episode. So I can tease that there is some much more R-rated It’s Always Sunny-style content that you get to see when you see our episode,” Day explained.
