The Karen Read retrial is taking the world by storm.

Today marks the fourth day of deliberations in Read’s retrial. The 45 year old is facing the following three charges in the murder trial, per NBC10 Boston: second-degree murder, manslaughter while driving under the influence, and leaving the scene after allegedly hitting and killing her boyfriend, John O’Keefe, in 2022.

O’Keefe, a Boston police officer, was 46 years old when he died. CBS News reported that the autopsy found that his death was caused by hypothermia and blunt impact injuries to his head. However, Read’s defense claims that O’Keefe was actually bitten by a dog and left out in the cold, in a conspiracy that was allegedly orchestrated by the police, per ABC News.

According to CBS News, Read’s first trial for second-degree murder began in April 2024, but a mistrial was declared over the “deeply divided” jury in July 2024.

Her second trial officially began this April. A five-episode docuseries from Investigation Discovery surrounding the trial, titled A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read, also arrived that same month, and is available to stream on ID and Max.
