Happy Face gave us all a bone-chilling season after it premiered in March 2025. Based on the actual serial killer, the series ended on a cliffhanger, and viewers naturally wondered whether a season 2 was in the cards. So, can true crime fans look forward to another season?

Below, Hollywood Life has all the updates on whether Happy Face is getting a season 2.

Happy Face Series Cast

Led by Annaleigh Ashford as Melissa Reed and Dennis Quaid as Keith Hunter Jesperson, the rest of the main Happy Face cast features James Wolk as Ben Reed, Tamera Tomakili as Ivy Campbell, Khiyla Aynne as Hazel Reed, Benjamin Mackey as Max Reed and Damon Gupton as Elijah.

A few of the show’s stars discussed the true crime drama in an interview published after the season 1 finale aired in April 2025. While speaking with Us Weekly, Dennis noted that the series is “authentic.”

“If you love true crime … I mean I fall asleep to Dateline all the time — in a good way,” the actor joked, before adding, “But if you love true crime, you’re going to be addicted to this.”

Is There a Happy Face Season 2?

At the moment, no — Happy Face has not been renewed for a season 2, but the door might have been left ajar for one.

In response to season 2 questions, Dennis told Us Weekly, “I’m going to leave [that decision] to [creator Jennifer Cacicio and Melissa G. Moore]. They have such a great imagination with that. [But the real serial killer] has always said that there were more than eight [victims he killed]. Whether he is doing that for attention — which probably is the case — that remains to be seen. But there’s more to explore here.”

Where Is the Real Happy Face Killer Now?

The real Keith Hunter Jesperson is currently incarcerated at the Oregon State Penitentiary, where he is serving life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Dennis discussed Keith’s whereabouts during his Us Weekly interview. He also revealed out that he “didn’t want to meet” the actual killer even though he enjoys “playing real people” and doing the homework behind each performance.

“He’s in a hole in a prison, which is exactly where he should be,” the Parent Trap star noted. “I didn’t want to give him any kind of satisfaction or excitement. In this tale, it’s really from his daughter’s point of view. I think she knows him better than he knows himself.”
