Gwyneth Paltrow regrets not having a bigger family.
The “Iron Man” actress — who shares daughter Apple, 20, and son Moses, 19, with ex-husband Chris Martin — recently admitted that she wishes she had more children.
“My dad, Bruce Paltrow, used to say the only regret he had in his entire life was not having more kids,” Paltrow, 52, told her husband, Brad Falchuk, during Tuesday’s episode of her “Goop” podcast.
“And I felt like that for a long time,” the mom of two added.
Gwyneth told listeners that she began to feel more complete as a mother after marrying Falchuk, who shares son Brody, 18, and daughter Isabella, 20, with his ex-wife, Suzanne Bukinik.
“In an ideal world, the relationship that you have your kids in works out, and your kids never have to experience divorce or blending families or anything like that,” she shared.
“But a lot of times, that’s not the case.”
The Goop founder said becoming a stepparent has been “tricky” because it “requires a great deal of accountability, vulnerability, understanding your triggers.”
“And nothing quite seems to trigger somebody, especially women, like [a] stepmother,” Gwyneth added.
The Marvel star said she had trouble bringing Falchuk, whom she married in 2018, into her kids’ lives after separating from the Coldplay musician in 2014.
“What seems to happen every time is the dad is in the middle,” she explained.
“The kids are having a hard time understanding and adjusting, they don’t want to let go of the family dynamic they had, and the dad is trying to appease both and play both sides.”
Despite the initial hardships, the “Glee” co-creator, 54, and Gwyneth have made their blended brood work.
“It started to just feel really light and really cohesive and since then, we’ve had so many moments like that,” the “Shallow Hal” star recalled.
“It keeps deepening. It’s such a particular kind of delight to see our four kids in their own relationships and being friends with each other and loving each other.”
Gwyneth and Martin, 48, tied the knot in 2003 and welcomed Apple and Moses in 2004 and 2006, respectively.
The actress and the “Hymn for the Weekend” singer officially ended their 13-year marriage in 2016.
Two years later, Gwyneth married Falchuk in a lavish wedding in the Hamptons.
