Gal Gadot and Matthias Schoenaerts set to star in the World War II thriller “Ruin” with “Mulan’s” Niki Caro on board to direct.

“Ruin” topped Hollywood’s Black List in 2017 and was written by Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo, who penned Marvel’s “Eternals.” Marc Butan of MadRiver Pictures is set to produce alongside Jaron Varsano and Gadot under their banner Pilot Wave Motion Pictures along with Caro.

“Ruin” is set post-WWII Germany and follows a recently released camp prisoner (Gadot) who is forced to make an unlikely alliance with a German soldier (Schoenaerts) in a mutual quest to exact revenge on a Nazi SS squad.

Ludascripts’ Gillian Hormel and Aloe Entertainment’s Mary Aloe, alongside Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo are executive producers. Evan Powell will oversee for MadRiver. The Veterans is representing international sales rights and is launching the project to buyers at Cannes. UTA Independent Film Group, WME Independent, and CAA Media Finance are co-repping US rights.

Niki Caro, left, is set to direct “Ruin” with Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo writing the script.

The Veterans Cannes sales slate includes James Gray’s “Paper Tiger” and Christian Gudegast’s Gerard Butler-starrer “Empire State.”

Caro is no stranger to directing World War II-based dramas — she also helmed the Holocaust drama “The Zookeeper’s Wife” starring Jessica Chastain.

Caro’s debut feature was “Whale Rider,” which made Keisha Castle-Hughes the then-youngest female to be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar. She also directed Charlize Theron and Frances McDormand in “North Country.”

Gadot is currently in production on “The Runner” for MGM Amazon and most recently starred as the Evil Queen in Disney’s “Snow White.” She wrapped production last year on the Julian Schnabel film “Hand of Dante.” Schoenaerts, who is currently filming “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” for Warner Bros and DC Studios, will next be seen starring in “The Old Guard 2” for Netflix.

The Firpos are currently creating “Butch & Sundance” for Amazon starring Glen Powell and Regé-Jean Page as well as writing original sports-drama “Big Wave” for Apple.

Gadot is represented by WME and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Schoenaerts is represented by CAA; Caro is represented by UTA; and the Firpos are represented by CAA and Untitled.
