Filmmaker Danish Renzu has launched Renzu Music, a label focused on bringing Kashmiri music to mainstream audiences through collaborations with established artists and emerging local talent.

The label aims to showcase regional Kashmiri, Balti, and Pahadi-language songs alongside Hindi and English singles. Its roster features artists like Noor Mohammad, Huzaif Nazar, Masrat un Nisa, Abhay Sopori, and Duha Shah, with “Hoshdar” marking its first original release.

“Music has become an integral part of my filmmaking journey,” says Renzu, who studied at UCLA before founding production company Renzu Films. “This label focuses on sharing authentic Kashmiri stories and creating a platform for local talent.”

The label has already produced collaborations with established names including Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Ali Sethi, and Rashmeet Kaur. Notably, “Ae Savere,” featuring Soni Razdan, explored themes of Kashmiri Pandit heritage, while “Pehla Qadam” brought together artists from India, Pakistan, and the U.S. during the pandemic.

“Thrilled to collaborate with the legendary Kashmiri folk artist Noor Mohammed under the incredible Renzu Music label,” says Rashmeet Kaur. “This marks a historic fusion of Kashmiri and Punjabi folk – a beautiful blend of two rich cultures.”

Actor Yaaneea Bharadwaj, who appeared in the label’s debut release “Hoshdar,” describes working with Renzu as “truly magical.” “He brought out a serene and beautiful side of me I’d never seen before,” she says. “It was an unforgettable experience that holds a special place in my heart.”

“Music from Kashmir is beautiful and I’m glad that finally this music is getting its well-deserved platform,” adds India’s Oscar entry, “Lost Ladies” star Nitanshi Goel, who worked with Renzu Music on Mohit Chauhan’s “Hum Mile.” “More success stories from the valley should be encouraged. It’s time.”

Upcoming releases include “Yusha Inna” featuring the Balti singers group from Kargil, “Jee Le Zara” with actor Mir Tafazul, and “Chingari” performed by IP Singh. The label is also developing projects with Aabha Hanjura and Yashika Sikka.

Renzu’s upcoming film “Songs of Paradise,” produced by Excel Entertainment and inspired by legendary singer Raj Begum, is set for release in early 2025. The film stars Saba Azad and showcases Kashmir’s musical heritage.

The label maintains partnerships with major Indian music companies including Zee Music, Sony Music, Saregama, and Times Music, while operating with a local production team in Kashmir.
