Couples therapy has never looked better. Neon has released the first trailer for “Splitsville,” the second feature by Michael Angelo Corvino following his 2019 debut, “The Climb.”

“Splitsville” follows Carey (Kyle Marvin) and Ashley (Adria Arjona), who find themselves at a crossroads after one year of marriage. When Ashley asks for a divorce, Carey finds himself running to his two friends, Julie (Dakota Johnson) and Paul (Covino), for support. They reveal that the secret to happiness in their marriage is having an open relationship. After Carey and Julie sleep together and reveal it to their respective partners, the facades of both relationships begin to crack, setting both couples on a collision course.

Additional cast members include David Castañeda, O-T Fagbenle, Charlie Gillespie, Nicholas Braun, Simon Webster, Prince Rodn3y, Jessika Mathurin, Stephen Adekolu, Tyrone Benskin, Nahéma Ricci and Letitia Brookes.

“Splitsville” had its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a 6-minute standing ovation and plenty of laughs. Corvino explained the importance of having a film like “Splitsville” play at a festival like Cannes, saying that filmmakers “need to keep making comedies for Cannes,” and that “laughter should be seen in a theater, not on a television screen.”

“Splitsville” was co-written by Corvino and Marvin, who also produced the film. Neon, Topic Studios, Watch This Ready and Johnson and Donnelly’s TeaTime Pictures are producers on the film, alongside Emily Korteweg and Samantha Racanelli. Arjona and Paul Barbeau serve as executive producers.

“Splitsville” will be released in theaters on August 22.
