The BAU is back, baby. And against all odds, so is Elias Voit (Zach Gilford).

Criminal Minds: Evolution returned with its highly-anticipated Season 18 premiere on Thursday, May 8 and revealed that Voit survived his prison attack, has been in a coma for months, and will work with the BAU again in some capacity.

Per Paramount+‘s official synopsis, “Season 18 of Criminal Minds: Evolution picks up six months after prisoners attack the notorious Sicarius Killer, Elias Voit, leading his restless followers on the dark web to begin wreaking havoc all over the country. In order to stop this nefarious group from killing more innocents, the BAU is forced to work alongside an increasingly unpredictable Voit who has his own agenda.”

In Criminal Minds: Evolution‘s Season 18 premiere, we saw Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Prentiss (Paget Brewster), JJ (A.J. Cook), Luke (Adam Rodriguez), Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), Tyler (Ryan-James Hatanaka), and the rest of the series’ core characters work to track down a new unsub with concerning ties to Sicarius’ playbook. It’s clear that Voit is still incredibly valuable to the team. And with Matthew Gray Gubler confirmed to return to the BAU as Dr. Spencer Reid in Season 18, there’s lots to look forward to this season.
