Comedian Jeff Ross was hospitalized following a severe allergic reaction to a food item.
The “Roastmaster General” shared pictures of himself sitting in a hospital bed with a swollen face and lips on Instagram Saturday, revealing that ice cream was the cause of his protruding facial features.
“ROAST ME. TONIGHT’S SHOW NEAR SAN FRANCISCO MUST GO ON! Had such a fun opening night performance of @takeabananafortheride up here in Mill Valley, California @throckmortontheatre,” he captioned the post.
Ross, 59, said he and the band celebrated by indulging in some Burrata ice cream, which is created by replacing the egg yolk mixture or crème anglaise from a classic ice cream recipe with BelGioioso Burrata and a touch of cornstarch, per Food 52.
Though the “Comedy Central Roast” alum said the dessert was “delicious” and “seriously yummy,” his lips began to blow up and he spent the entire night in the emergency room.
“It was my first allergic reaction ever,” he admitted. “I guess that’s pretty remarkable considering I’m constantly shoving whatever food is in front of me into my face.”
Despite Ross’ health challenges, he made light of the situation by joking that he would look like actor Mickey Rourke at the end of the 2008 film “The Wrestler.”
Several stars poked fun at Ross’ swollen look in the comments section of his post.
“Sloth love chunk …and I can always be your chunk! speedy recovery my brother,” wrote *NSYNC singer Joey Fatone.
“Oh no! How dare burrata do that to you!?!? Hope you’re better already! Love you!” added Bob Saget’s widow, Kelly Rizzo.
“Didn’t even notice a difference,” quipped comedian Josh Wolf.
“You are now Cast-able. Next movie 🎥, we will get you The ice cream to keep the look! Awesome!” commented filmmaker Michael Bay.
Ross has several forthcoming shows in Brea, Calif., for his “An Evening With Jeff Ross” comedy tour.
Last year, he made headlines for roasting Tom Bady about the massage parlor scandal that ensnared New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft — a joke the NFL did not find funny.
