“The White Lotus” star Carrie Coon spoke candidly on “The View” about the rifts created by Donald Trump’s presidency and how tricky it can be to bridge them.

Coon discussed a scene from the hit HBO series in which Leslie Bibb’s character, Kate, appears to imply she voted for Trump — prompting shocked reactions from her longtime friends, Coon’s Laurie and Michelle Monaghan’s Jaclyn.

When Coon was asked on “The View” if she believes it’s possible to have friends who don’t share your political beliefs, she said, “I do.”

But when asked if that includes friends who voted for Trump, she admitted:

“I have family members who voted for Trump. I’m from Ohio. We had to have those conversations. Not my immediate family. I think there was a time when it was possible to have conversations about it. But when you’re in an authoritarian slide, it becomes a closed system. The leader is the source of information, that is not penetrable. So, when you’re inside of that circular information system, then it’s very hard, very hard to talk about anything because there’s no basis in fact.”

Coon also expressed doubt that Trump supporters who are actually being harmed by his policies will turn on him: “I think narrative is very powerful, and it’s very easy to teach them that they should blame immigrants or trans people while billionaires are picking their pocket.”

The actor was thanked for speaking out, with the hosts noting that many people in her situation avoid political commentary out of fear of being ostracized.

Coon responded with four words. “I’m a mom first.”
