Bishop TD Jakes appeared to suffer a medical emergency while delivering his sermon on Sunday.
“Oh Lord, my strength, my redeemer, let them go in peace,” the 67-year-old pastor said moments before he dropped his microphone and fell silent.
Jakes then began involuntarily shaking in his seat before those around him rushed to surround him and provide support.
People were heard saying “back up” and “give him some space” as the livestream video was cut off. A voice off-camera then asked those at the church and online viewers to “begin to pray.”
Page Six has reached out to Jakes’ team for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Soon after the incident occurred, Jakes’ team took to X (formerly Twitter) to share an update on the pastor’s condition.
“During today’s service, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour long message. Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals,” the statement read.
“The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community. Thank you for your understanding and continued prayers.”
Immediately after the incident, several fans online speculated that Jakes had suffered a stroke — however — his team did not disclose what actually occurred.
“Bishop TD Jakes had a medical emergency during today’s service. Not sure if it was a stroke,” one supporter wrote.
“That’s a stroke,” another claimed, while a separate supporter wrote, “Thoughts and prayers out to him and his family. 🙏🏾.”
Meanwhile, a third was surprised that Jakes was delivering a sermon at all.
“I thought he had stepped down from preaching,” they penned.
A fourth netizen then called the incident “so sad” and reacted to how long it took those around Jakes to realize what was happening.
“I was watching this. So sad. It took them a minute to realize he was having a health emergency. 🙏🏾,” they wrote.
