Bill Maher is taking aim at tech billionaire Elon Musk over his lead role in the so-called Department of Government Efficiency after it sparked chaos by slashing the jobs of tens of thousands of federal employees.

On a recent episode of Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, the comedian didn’t hold back on trashing Musk for “gleefully” firing American workers.

Maher said he initially endorsed the idea that Musk, a senior aide to President Donald Trump, could “make the government more efficient,” but criticized how the billionaire executed his strategy.

“The way they did it was horrendous and gleeful, gleeful in their sadism, [like] ‘Hey government workers, you’re fired. Do something decent with your life,’” Maher said during the episode that premiered Sunday.

He added that “you don’t have to be a liberal or anything” to recoil at Musk and DOGE’s methods.

The “Real Time” host went on to criticize Musk, who acquired X (formerly Twitter) in October 2022, for “retweeting the worst of the tweets.”

Musk has made headlines for endorsing antisemitic conspiracy theories and making a gesture many identified as a Nazi salute during a post-inauguration celebration for Trump. Musk dismissed the accusations as “tired” in an X post.

“Are there going to be some Nazis if you really have a free speech channel [on X]? Yes. But you don’t have to retweet them,” Maher continued.

Elsewhere in the episode, Maher told guest Winston Marshall that he has “mixed feelings” about Musk, but clarified that his feelings have become “way more negative” in light of the recent controversies.

“I’m sorry, but my feelings just get worse because he just gets worse,” Maher said.

Maher’s remarks on Musk appear at the 7:30 mark in his “Club Random” podcast below.
