Prague-based sales agent Filmotor has acquired worldwide rights, except for Slovakia and Czech Republic, for the documentary drama “Better Go Mad in the Wild,” which will make its world premiere in the Crystal Globe Competition at Karlovy Vary Film Festival.

The film develops the theme explored in the book of the same name by Aleš Palán and Jan Šibík, asking whether it’s possible to spend your whole life in a single place.

It introduces the lives of two inseparable brothers living in the wild, in Sumava Mountains, south of Bohemia. Franta and Ondra, twins and eternal children, share a magical world and every moment of their lives. Though identical in appearance, their souls drift apart. Franta longs for freedom, while Ondra clings to routine. Can they escape one another, or will only death finally divide what love could not?

The film is directed by Slovakia’s Miro Remo, whose short film “Arsy-Versy” (2009) won multiple awards, among others in Ji.hlava, Festival dei Popoli, Sheffield, Taipei and Krakow. Recently he finished a docu series for VOYO “Because of Bear,” about the wild bear phenomenon in Slovakia that has been dividing society in recent years.

“Better Go Mad in the Wild” is Remo’s fourth feature film to be shown at Karlovy Vary. His first three feature films all premiered in KV’s competitions: “Comeback” (2014), “This Is Not Me” (2016) and “At Full Throttle” (2021).

The film was produced by Slovak company Arsy Versy and Czech production outfit Nutprodukce, lead by producers Tomas Hruby and Pavla Janoušková Kubečková. Czech Television co-produced the film.

Michaela Cajkova, the head of Filmotor, said: “We have been following Miro’s works for years and it is a great joy to start working with him as he is one of the strongest documentary directors from the region. The film is pushing the boundaries of the genres. It is a cinematic opera shot faraway from the usual civilization.”

The Czech release will be at the end of summer with Aero Films. Slovak distribution is held by Film Expanded.
