Beba Rexha was the victim of body-shaming at the Met Gala on Monday, and she was upset enough to respond.
Azealia Banks, a rapper and frequent online instigator, made disparaging comments about Rexha’s look on X, writing, “Sis gives me – hormonal birth control implant or something.”
“It’s giving implanon/nuvaring she needs removed or depo shot that needs to stop happening (I’m not even tryna play her),” the “212” artist cruelly wrote.
Rexha quickly addressed Banks’ comments.
“And you might wanna jump on some type of therapy, sis, lexapro worked great for me,” she replied on X. “Something that helps with the deep rooted sadness and chaos you keep projecting. Healing looks good on everyone. Try it.”

Rexha added that she is “so tired of people commenting on my weight.” She also shared that she’d experienced pregnancy loss.
“I have PCOS and struggle with infertility,” the singer said in a since-deleted tweet. “I got pregnant, and it didn’t work out and I’ve been carrying that pain in silence. I never owed anyone that truth, but maybe now you’ll think twice before commenting on anyone’s body.”
She signed off with a positive note, and then wrote, “Ok I’m gonna go and enjoy my day now ♥️ Have a good day everyone love you.”
Rexha has often spoken up about the body-shaming comments she’s faced. In one particularly viral moment, she called out designers who have refused to dress her in the past because she was a size 8.
“So I finally get nominated at the Grammys and it’s like the coolest thing ever,” Rexha said in an Instagram video in 2019. “And a lot of times, artists will go and talk to designers and they’ll make them custom dresses to walk the red carpet. … So I had my team hit out a lot of designers, and a lot of them do not want to dress me because I’m too big.”
“Fuck you, I don’t want to wear your fucking dresses,” she said.
Some famous designers reached out to Rexha in the comments at the time and offered to dress her, including “Project Runway” winner Christian Siriano.
In a full circle moment, Siriano ― who has dressed the singer many times before ― also collaborated with Rexha for her Met Gala moment on Monday.
Rexha said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the gala that the designer “always nails the assignment” and “always makes me look good.”
