Getting tired of watching Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) ache over Aidan (John Corbett)? Secretly hoping a new bombshell will enter the proverbial villa on And Just Like That…? Well, MAX‘s And Just Like That... finally introduces Carrie’s downstairs neighbor this week and he’s kind of…hot?

**Spoilers for And Just Like That… Season 3 Episode 5 “Under the Table,” now streaming on MAX**

And Just Like That… Season 3 Episode 5 “Under the Table” reveals that the brooding British writer Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake) lives in the basement unit of Carrie’s luxurious Gramercy Park building. The celebrated biographer splits his year between London and New York, using his time in the Big Apple to work on his best-selling books by night. Because he’s on this nocturnal schedule, Duncan sleeps during the day. This is an issue because Carrie spends her every waking hour strutting across her hardwood floors in her iconic heels, torturing Duncan downstairs.

After Duncan confronts Carrie about the cacophony she’s causing, she naturally goes on to complain about the situation to her friends. Carrie goes so far as to argue for a “woman’s right to shoes,” aka a callback to a classic Sex and the City episode. However, Carrie eventually does cave. First she makes an effort to walk on carpeting, to muffle the sound of her heels. Then, after a sweet convo with Duncan towards the end of the episode, she finally takes her shoes off, opting to be barefoot in her house.

All that’s well and good, but what we need to know is if Duncan is being set up as a potential new love interest for Carrie? Aidan is still stuck in Virginia and Duncan is literally right there. (She’s already on top of him, if you know what I mean…)

Here’s everything we know so far about Duncan Reeves and the actor who plays him, Jonathan Cake…

Who is Duncan Reeves on And Just Like That? Meet Jonathan Cake:

And Just Like That… Season 3 Episode 5 “Under the Table” introduces us to Duncan Reeves, who is actually a big freaking deal. While Carrie might not have ever stumbled upon his work, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) geeks out when she discovers that the biographer is sharing a street address with her bestie. In fact, the way Miranda gushes about his non-fiction work evokes the way me and my history nerd buddies talk about Robert Caro, David McCullough, or David Grann.

Interestingly enough, Miranda is not the only Sex and the City character familiar with Duncan. Carrie asks the London-based Samantha (Kim Cattrall) about him via text and learns that he has a “fun” reputation on the other side of the pond. We later learn that’s because he uses his time in London to unwind and New York is where he focuses up on his latest project. As it happens, Duncan is struggling with his latest book, a biography of Margaret Thatcher.

The latest episode of And Just Like That… ends with tensions between Duncan and Carrie thawing, leading us to wonder if this will be a great professional relationship for our heroine or potentially the start of something more?

New And Just Like That… character Duncan Reeves is played by Jonathan Cake. The 57-year-old British actor got his start in ’90s projects like Press Gang, First Knight, and Mosley. Over the years, he’s appeared in everything from HBO shows Doll & Em and Camping to Stargirl and The Affair.

In real life, Jonathan Cake has been married to actress Julianne Nicholson since 2004. You can follow him on Instagram @jonathan.is.cake.
