Jennifer Lopez isn’t scared of having tough conversations with her kids.

Months after she and Ben Affleck finalized their divorce, the “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” singer shared how she navigated telling her 17-year-old twins Max and Emme—whom she shares with Marc Anthony—about the end of their marriage.

“I said, ‘I promise you, this is a difficult time, but you’re going to see that I’ll come out the other side stronger and better.’ I promised them that and I did it,” Jennifer, 55, said in an interview with El Pais published May 2. “And they feel it now. That gives me a great sense of peace in my life.”

Jennifer and Ben, 52, settled their divorce in January, five months after she initially filed to end their two-year marriage in August 2024. For Jennifer, navigating her children through a big change has brought a sense of pride.

“I’m happier that I’m a step further along than I was a year ago, two years ago, three years ago,” she said. “I’m proud of myself for that and I’m proud that I was able to navigate my children through difficult times, that they’re stronger and better because of it.”
