Ed Helms seemed thrown off when Joy Behar asked for his opinion on how future generations will look back on President Donald Trump‘s administration while visiting morning’s episode of The View.
The Hangover star appeared on the long-running daytime talk show to promote his new book SNAFU: The Definitive Guide to History’s Greatest Screwups, which does a deep dive into the biggest snafus of each decade — like the time the government wanted to detonate a nuclear bomb on the moon amid the Cold War or the time the CIA tried to turn cats into spies by surgically implanting microphones into their ears.
“You see, this is not the first time dumb stuff has happened,” moderator Whoopi Goldberg said, seemingly referring to Trump’s policies that have been Hot Topics on The View ever since he took office for the second time earlier this year.
Piggybacking off of her co-host, Behar wondered how future generations would view Trump’s presidency.
“You say that for all the screwups, though, the current administration is gonna be seen like what?” she asked. “What about this administration in 50 years? What do you predict?”
Helms, for his part, appeared to be at a loss for words as he stumbled his way through his response.
“Uh… Oh, boy. Um… I mean, everything’s fine, right?” he joked.
Using his many years in the spotlight (and likely a lot of media training), Helms quickly pivoted back to his book, telling Behar, “The fun thing about the book is every chapter is a different snafu. It’s very easy to pick up and read. It’ll make you a killer at dinner parties, by the way.”
Eventually, the actor did admit that “we’ll probably have a bunch of snafus” when we look back on this moment in time years from now.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
