“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart said President Donald Trump has been in office 100 days and has “abjectly failed” to deliver on any of his key promises.
“He has the lowest approval rating of any president in the past 80 years,” Stewart said. “Suck it, Herbert Hoover!”
But the biggest failure so far may be on the economy, which Trump promised would “boom” but instead has been a bust as his trade wars cause stocks to tank.
Stewart rolled footage of Trump claiming he has the power to negotiate ― then pointed out one big flaw in that argument.
“Trump is not only not the best negotiator,” Stewart said. “He is maybe the worst negotiator.”
Trump’s negotiations on Ukraine, for example, included an ineffective social media appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin that said “Vladimir, STOP!”
Trump’s trade negotiations have been just as fruitless, despite the fact that he keeps insisting he has “leverage” thanks to America’s “pot of gold.”
“You are not the keeper of our pot of gold,” Stewart fired back. “You are a temporary leprechaun.”
Stewart added that any “leverage” doesn’t belong to Trump, but to the American people, who have invested 250 years of “painstaking equity” into the nation ― equity that Trump is now “squandering.”
“The more enamored, President Trump, you are with your authoritarian whims, the more that you turn our ‘shining city on a hill’ into just another ordinary, despot-led, sea-level shithole,” Stewart said. “So if I could just put this in negotiating terms you can understand, all caps: Donald, STOP!”
