“The Summer I Turned Pretty” star Gavin Casalegno got candid about his first year of marriage with his wife, Cheyanne Casalegno, after keeping their romance under wraps.
“It’s so fun,” the actor told Page Six exclusively while promoting his Kai Lo clothing brand at the La La Land Kind Cafe in Los Angeles over the weekend.
“A lot of time, people say the first year of marriage is the hardest, but being able to work on Kai Lo and the passion projects that we have actually made it really enjoyable and has helped us get on the same page creatively.”
Cheyanne was hands-on with helping Gavin’s clothing line come to life, and notably modeled a white “Pursue Wonder” baby tee ($46.00) for the launch.
“We just had a blast,” he said. “You can’t take it too seriously. The second you do, is when all the joy gets sucked out of it. So we’ve really just been trying to enjoy ourselves and make the most of it.”
The couple’s faith inspired Gavin, 25, to release T-shirts and hoodies with inspirational messages, such as “Power Is In Your Perspective,” “Vulnerability Is Underrated” and “Depth Over Surface.”
Gavin, meanwhile, shocked fans when he hard-launched his relationship with his wife days after they tied the knot in November 2024.
At the time, he took to his Instagram to share heartwarming wedding photos of Cheyanne donning an off-the-shoulder white gown, while he sported a traditional black suit.
Gavin referred to their hushed-up romance as his “Best Kept Secret 💍🤍🔒.”
Talking to Page Six about why he decided to keep his relationship private, he said, “I’ve done the opposite [before] where it was more public and weighed the pros and cons.
“I think your personal life and your work life should be separate. That’s just really something I took to heart.
“We really want to grow in private and not in the public eye because sometimes when you’re in the public eye, you can’t get out of it. So why not just make the most of it and deepen that relationship rather than let the public have their opinions?”
With Season 3 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” coming out in July, Gavin also weighed in on whether he is “Team Jeremiah or Team Conrad.”
“Team Jeremiah, all the way,” he said with a laugh. “I have to be.”
The Amazon teen drama follows Gavin, who portrays Jeremiah Fisher, and actor Christopher Briney, his on-screen brother, Conrad Fisher, as they vie for the love of Lola Tung’s character, Belly.
Reflecting on heading back to set to film the finale season of the series, Gavin said he had so much “fun” with the cast that has become his “family.”
“Going to set every day and seeing the same faces and having a good relationship with everybody [is fun],” he explained. “It’s just so fun to work with everybody. Everybody has their own quirks and jokes, and to get to know these people has been a real treat.”
Season 3 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video on July 16.
