Nikki Glaser is not one to pull punches, and yet the comedian and Golden Globes host revealed that she once cut a joke from a Comedy Central roast after Caitlyn Jenner threatened to pull out of the event.

Speaking at the Time100 Summit in New York, Glaser said she was workshopping her material around Los Angeles before the telecast — likely the roast of Alec Baldwin — and Jenner had caught wind of a joke she had prepared about Jenner’s involvement in a fatal car wreck. (Glaser did not repeat the joke at the summit, but in a 2019 appearance on “The Howard Stern Show,” she revealed the jokes she cut from the roast: “Caitlyn Jenner, what a beautiful woman… you killed with your car four years ago. [You are] one woman who can’t menstruate but still manages to have blood on her hands.”)

Glaser said she was “nervous” about performing material about the car crash and asked Comedy Central if she could give Jenner a warning. Glaser said the network told her not to, fearing Jenner would back out. Still, Jenner heard about the joke ahead of the roast. “[Jenner] said if there’s a joke like that, I don’t want to be a part of it,” Glaser said. “As soon as I heard that, I go, ‘OK, I’ll take it out.’ I just needed to hear it from her.”

Glaser said she’ll “gladly” cut jokes that make subjects too uncomfortable, which stems from advice she once received from former Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel, who told Glaser: “If you’re worried about a joke and how it’s going to go over, just ask them.”

That’s not the only time Glaser put those words into practice. Ahead of her Golden Globes monologue in January, she texted Benny Blanco about a joke that went: “Selena Gomez is here for ‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘Only Murders.’ And she’s here tonight with her new fiancé, Benny Blanco. And Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish.”

“I got his number and was like, ‘Hey, you don’t know me, but I’m hosting this thing and I hear you’re going to be there. Can I say that you’re there because a genie granted you a wish?’” Glaser shared at the Time100 Summit. According to Glaser, Blanco texted back: “That’s hilarious! Let me run it by Selena.” And, later: “Selena thinks it’s great.”

Glaser is set to host next year’s Golden Globes on Jan. 11, 2026.
