Renowned animation powerhouse The Hive Studio, best known for co-producing Tal Kantor’s Oscar-nominated short “Letter to a Pig,” has officially launched a new European outpost in Greece. The Hive Greece, established in partnership with Athens-based Animasyros Productions, aims to bring together Southern Mediterranean talent and enhance cross-European animation co-productions.
The collaboration marks a strategic move to bolster the Greek animation industry’s international presence. Animasyros Productions, known for organizing Greece’s largest animation film festival, Animasyros International Animation Festival, shares The Hive’s vision for cultivating creative synergy and innovation in storytelling.
The Hive Studio has already worked with Animasyros on several notable projects, including the short film “P,” directed by Stelios Koupetoris and co-produced with the Greek Film Center. The film recently won the ASIFA-Hellas Award for Best Screenplay and was featured in multiple international festivals.
Amit Russell Gicelter, Founder and CEO of The Hive Studio, expressed his enthusiasm for the new venture in a release: “I’m truly excited to be collaborating with the Greek industry. Over the past several months, we’ve been developing, producing and collaborating together. It feels like a natural and meaningful evolution for our company. I can’t wait to explore the opportunities that lie ahead.”
In addition to production, The Hive Greece will offer animation courses to nurture emerging talent, beginning with a specialized Toon Boom masterclass. The branch will also leverage Greece’s 40% rebate on foreign investment to encourage partnerships with European studios.
Founded in 2010, The Hive Studio has grown into an internationally acclaimed creative hub, delivering award-winning animation across genres and platforms. The Greek expansion underscores its commitment to global storytelling and artistic collaboration.
