Just how far will you go to see Moana 2? You’ll at least have to go the distance to your nearest movie theater, because the sequel to this animated Disney movie is only in theaters, opening this week.
The follow-up to the popular 2016 animated musical Moana, Moana 2 takes place three years after the events of the first film. Voice actors Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson are back as Moana and Maui, who must embark on a dangerous mission together to save their world as they know it.
Additional voice cast includes Hualālai Chung as Moni, Rose Matafeo as Loto, David Fane as Kele, Awhimai Fraser as Matangi, Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda as Simea, Temuera Morrison as Chief Tui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, Rachel House as Gramma Tala, Gerald Faitala Ramsey as Tautai Vasa, and Alan Tudyk as Heihei.
Even though Lin-Manuel Miranda didn’t write the music for this sequel, we’re sure there’s still plenty to love about Moana 2. Read on for everything you need to know about where to watch Moana 2, including when we expect to see Moana 2 streaming on Disney+.
Where to watch Moana 2:
Right now, the only place to watch Moana 2 is in a movie theater, when the movie opens in theaters this Wednesday, November 27. You can find a showing at a movie theater near you via Fandango.
Is Moana 2 streaming on Netflix?
Moana 2 is not streaming on Netflix, and most likely will never be streaming on Netflix. This is due to the fact that Moana 2 is a Disney movie and will have a streaming home on the Disney-owned streamer, Disney+.
Is Moana 2 streaming on Disney Plus?
Moana 2 is not yet streaming on Disney+. Right now, the movie is only playing in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Moana 2 streaming on Disney+ eventually. While a Moana 2 Disney+ release date has not yet been announced, we can make an educated guess as to when the movie will be streaming based on previous Disney releases.
Another recent Disney animated movie, Inside Out 2, was released on premium video-on-demand about two months after opening in theaters, and began streaming on Disney+ about three months after opening in theaters. If Moana 2 follows a similar release strategy, you may see Moana 2 on digital platforms around the end of January 2025, and streaming on Disney+ around late February 2025.
But this is all speculation. If you want to see Moana 2 ASAP, you can catch the movie in theaters. And in the meantime, you can watch the first Moana film on Disney+.
