Two weeks ago, Jarrett “JT” Thomas shocked Bravo fans everywhere by announcing his resignation from Southern Charm for the remainder of Season 10. While most of the show had finished filming, Thomas still had “2-3 remaining green room interviews” to complete as well as the season reunion. Thomas first joined Southern Charm in Season 9 when he unsuccessfully pursued Taylor Ann Green and clashed with Austen Kroll, resulting in a physical altercation with Kroll in the finale episode.
“I no longer wish to participate in any way moving forward with the TV show,” wrote Thomas in a statement posted on his Instagram. Though Thomas did not go into details about his sudden departure, he added that he is prioritizing the “next steps to recover both physically and mentally from what has been an extremely challenging and exhausting year.”
While Thomas is no doubt the source of drama in Season 10 (Craig Conover tells the group that Thomas called the show’s matriarch Patricia Altschul “a bitch”), fans are wondering why Thomas chose to take such drastic measures before the series premiere on Thursday, December 5.
At Bravo Fan Fest, we spoke to Shep Rose and Madison LeCroy to get their reaction to Thomas’ resignation. “I was not all that surprised,” said Rose. Referencing an injury Thomas suffered in Costa Rica, Rose observed that Thomas “was not making much sense” when production for Season 10 picked up. “He was sort of up and down and kind of frantic,” added Rose.
Rose, who has been on a journey of his own since the Season 9 reunion, was sympathetic to Thomas his struggles. “Mental health is super important to maintain,” noted Rose. “We’re not doing important, lifesaving work here.” Though, Rose believes that Thomas would have fared better if he had put some distance between himself and social media: “He reads the comments and gets involved, which is what we all did at the beginning of this journey.” With a smile, Shep added knowingly, “it’s the worst thing you can do.”
Unlike Rose, LeCroy doesn’t have a soft spot for Thomas. “He will be the bitch when I am done with him,” said LeCroy famously in the Season 10 trailer after discovering what Thomas allegedly said about her friend/mentor Altschul. As Bravo fans know, LeCroy is someone who you really want to keep on your good side.
When asked if she was upset that she wasn’t going to get to call Thomas out at the reunion, LeCroy wasn’t worried. “I think I’ll still be able to confront him at the reunion,” said LeCroy. “He signed a contract.” Though Thomas may think he has a few tricks up his sleeve, he might have a hard time wiggling out of a binding legal agreement. “He’s not going anywhere,” LeCroy stated with certainty, clearly ready to take him to task.
Is Thomas truly done with Southern Charm? Fans will have to wait for the drama to unfold.
